Mini-OX Features

The Mini-OX will skim a broad range of hydrocarbons such as oil and diesel at an average rate of 8 fl.oz (250ml) per hour depending on the amount of oil contaminates in the bilge water. In cases of heavy contamination unit can skim and pump up to 32 fl.oz (1 Liter) per hour or more.

The Mini-OX has two main mounting options, the ramp and the side bracket. These allow for the flexibility to arrange the Mini-OX in the most effective place in your bilge. The ramp is intended for cleaning of the bilge while at dock and allows the unit to be stabilized and positioned for efficient skimming. The side mounting bracket is intended for if the Mini-OX will be used while at sea or in vessels with large variation in the level of water in their bilges. (We recommend that the unit is removed and secured if in rough seas) The pontoons on the unit are adjustable allowing for balancing float stability and available space. The unit only requires 1/2″ of liquid to be able to start skimming.

The Mini-OX has a peristaltic pump that is driven by the same motor that spins the pickup disc. As the disc collects and deposits the oil in the collection trough, the pump moves the oil through the tubing to a secondary container. Once this container is filled, it can be easily disposed or recycled. The rate in which the disc spins reduces the water picked up which allows for cheaper disposal or recycling due to waste not having water mixed with oil.

The Mini-OX requires very minimal maintenance. Once installed the unit will continue skim oil and pump for hundreds of hours with only the screen on the storage trough needing to be cleaned depending on what’s in your bilge. The next maintenance is changing out the pump tubing which is once a year or every 500 hours of operation. The skimming blades may need to be adjusted but are designed to work for up to 1 year without needing to be adjusted or replaced.

The Mini-OX comes with a electronic control unit that runs off of 9-36 VDC (Fused 5A input) that drives the Mini-OX. The control unit can be placed in an area where it is easily reached. Pressing the start button will set the unit running for 2 hours. Each following press of the start button will run cycles of 4,6,8 and 24 hour cycles. This allows for setting appropriate run times depending on the contamination in you bilge and the storage space of your secondary container. Know you’ll fill up a 5 gallon bucket in maybe 6 hours? Set the unit for 4 hours and ensure that you don’t overfill your container.

The mini-OX is designed to work in medium sized marine vessels in both the commercial and pleasure craft hull/engine designs. The adjustable pontoons make it so that it will fit a width of 9.5″ to 11.5″ (pontoons fully extended). The two mounting options allow for utilizing space effectively in your bilge.
